The Search Engine maze continues
|
| There are three search engines listed above, in
order of search results relevance. In other words Yahoo and AltaVista
still give better results than Google. Is Google god of the search engines? Certainly not! The news media has exploited Google to a falling point so to speak. In other words, there's nothing left for Google to do but take a fall, and it's at their own hand. I did a search on Google for "Alexandria Louisiana banks" and out of 168,000 entries, the #1 result was "WEATHER", not remotely close to the request. About six places down is a site that is just what I was searching for, it should have been in the #1 position as it is in Yahoo which also shows 168,000 entries. Also in AltaVista and all the others that I searched. So what makes Google so great? Nothing but sheer advertising and punches from the news media. Any stock would soar that gets that much coverage from the media. I am not against Google at all, I just hope they learn the lesson that Yahoo and AltaVista learned too late. There are two factors that will destroy Google. When search results are not good and when webmasters stop submitting due to poor page rank for good relevant sites. Google has guidelines for composing web pages, all of which all webmasters follow very close. While this hardly ever helps your page rank in Google, it pushes them to the top listing on the other search engines. Google beware! June 15, 2002 / 10:10pm |
