A certain number
of citizen were sequestered (called for jury duty), there were blacks on
the list as well as whites.
None of the sequestered blacks reported for jury duty..... thus there were no blacks to choose from. When asked why, one black that did not report said "I'd rather take my chances of being served with a bench warrant than to get mixed up with that bunch". Speaking of the boys on trial. The question is unanswered as to why there were no bench warrants issued to bring in the blacks that chose not to report for jury duty. Some say the Judge didn't care whether they reported or not. Others say the Judge didn't want to create any more problems. There is nothing he could have done, either way the media would make it big and bad. |
the all white jury occurred because the black people in Jena decided to boycott the jury call. By doing this they only created a situation that harmed the Jena six rather than helping them. Whatever their intentions were, we all exist under the same law and by outright neglecting their responsibility to appear for jury selection, they have no-one else but themselves to blame if they feel the trial was unfair.
